Toddler Community & Children’s House
Chiang Mai Montessori offers two programs covering pre-elementary learning. The Toddler Community is for toddlers aged 18 months to approximately 3 years of age. The Children’s House is for children aged between 3 and 6 years. Both classes take place in a mixed-age setting with a minimum of two teaching adults in the class at any one time. All teaching is in English while Thai is gradually introduced on an individual basis. Children have access to English speakers from the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States.
Montessori Materials
Both classes make use of genuine Montessori materials sourced from Italy and Thailand. The learning materials are one of the most distinguishable aspects of Montessori education, and they are a central component in the tuition process. Montessori activities involve a wide range of specially made wooden materials designed to respond to the passionate inquisitiveness of children. They are designed to be beautiful to look at, warm to the touch, and immediately feel like they have intrinsic value. Children naturally want to touch and use these learning materials, and they quickly establish an understanding of the objects’ uses without necessarily needing to understand their overall purpose. The value for the children comes via the skills they acquire through the process of practicing it: perception, dexterity, hand-eye coordination, perseverance etc.
